LGBTQIA+ 🏳🌈
LGBTQIA2S+ is an umbrella term that is often used to refer to the community as a whole. It is a common abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Pansexual, Transgender, Genderqueer, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Agender, Asexual, Aromantic, and 2-Spirit community. The “+” indicates that it can also encompass other identities not listed in the acronym. Shorter versions of the acronym are also often used, such as “LGBT,” “LGBTQ,” “2LGBTQ+,” and “2SLGBTTQIA,” amongst others. These generally are all representative of being inclusive of the community as a whole. Montreal is well-known for its vibrant LGBTQ+ community and general accepting nature. Unfortunately, however, there is still discrimination, homophobia, and transphobia from outside the LGBTQIA2S+ community, as well as racism and xenophobia within it. That being said, there are also many organizations and resources to help you navigate your life in Montreal and find community and connections. In this section you will find an array of information and resources specific to the LGBTQ+ community in Montreal, including legal rights, medical clinics, festivals, and community activities.
