If your landlord sends you a notice to increase the rent, you have 3 options:
1. You can accept the rent increase
-
- You do not need to do anything. You continue to live in your apartment but will start paying a higher rate at the end of your lease
- Your lease will automatically be renewed at the new rent amount
2. You can reject the rent increase and move out of the apartment
- You must inform your landlord in writing of this decision within a month of receiving the notice
3. You can reject the rent increase and stay put
-
- You must inform your landlord in writing of this decision within a month of receiving the notice
- You and your landlord can discuss an appropriate rent increase amount without involving other parties
- You can use the Tribunal Administratif du Logement’s calculation tool (only available in French) to decide what a fair price would be
- If you cannot agree on a price, your landlord may go to the Tribunal Administratif du Logement to ask them to fix the rent
- This application must be notified. This means your landlord must officially give you the application
