Rent Supplement Program
The rent supplement program helps low-income households to live in private-sector rental dwellings or dwellings belonging to housing cooperatives or non-profit organizations, and to pay a rent similar to that for low-rental housing, i.e. rent equal to 25% of their income. A number of criteria, including income, are used to establish eligibility. Low-Rental Housing Program
This program subsidizes rent and allows tenants to pay rent equal to 25% of their income. They may also be required to pay an additional amount for electricity, parking or air conditioning, depending on the services included in the lease. In order to qualify for the program you must have a low income and satisfy the following tenant eligibility criteria:
- You are able to meet your own basic needs (personal care and everyday household chores), either independently or with help from an outside resource or personal career.
- You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and live in Québec.
- You lived in the landlord’s selection area for at least 12 of the 24 months preceding your application.
If you meet the eligibility criteria (ie. you have been accepted as a permanent resident) and would like to benefit from this program, please apply to a housing bureau, cooperative or non-profit organization in your region.
