If your landlord is not providing you with a safe and sanitary place to live, you can try contacting the organizations below to receive support and information about your rights as a tenant. You can also contact the Tribunal Administratif du Logement (formerly known as the Regie du logement) for assistance and information. The Tribunal is not, however, a tenant’s rights organization. Rather, it is a part of the government that deals with housing issues.
There are different housing committees for each neighbourhood. These organisations provide information and resources for tenants facing issues with their housing. You can find your local housing committee by clicking the following link and searching your address.

- OEIL-CDN is a non-profit organization working to improve housing conditions for tenants in Côtes-des-Neiges by providing information and support. In addition to providing information, they can also help in writing letters to landlords, provide mediation with your landlord, help you prepare for a rental board hearing, and help you file complaints about your apartment.

- Project Genesis provides legal information, advocacy and support on a range of issues, including housing, pensions, welfare and other government programs. For people located near Project Genesis who cannot come to the storefront due to reduced mobility or vision loss, they also have Home Advocacy Services in which workers can come to your home. Project Genesis is available to anyone, regardless of immigration status, and all your interactions with them will be confidential.

- This organization is a centralized hub of information related to tenants’ rights. They conduct advocacy and have information and pamphlets about your rights. While their website is mostly in French, they do also have some information in English. They also have templates of official letters to send to your landlord (in English and French) if you have issues with your apartment that have not been resolved. Note that this organization is NOT the place to contact if you have questions about your specific apartment. Instead, reach out to your local housing committee.

- Formerly known as the Regie du Logement, the TAL is a tribunal specialized in matters regarding residential leases, including rights and obligations of tenants and landlords. If your landlord has done anything illegal, such as forcing you to pay a deposit, has discriminated against you, has refused to fix a dangerous situation in your apartment, or other issues, you have legal recourse through the TAL. You can also call them to ask questions about laws or correct procedure.
